-

HARDWICKE take one of the bottom two places after their home defeat to Frampton United, and it’s going to be a nervy finish to the Gloucestershire County League season for the four teams above them, including Almondsbury.

In midweek, Bromley Heath United had a 3-1 home win over Broadwell Amateurs, Avonmouth defeated Rockleaze Rangers 6-2 at KGV and were presented with the Championship cup, Almondsbury won 1-0 at Wick, Hanham Athletic lost in the GFA Senior Amateur Cup final on penalties, and also lost at Bromley Heath United 1-0.

After a disappointing week, Hanham Athletic took a trip up to Ruardean Hill Rangers (second time this season, and came away with a 2-2 draw.

Hanham took a 17th-minute lead when a great cross from Brandon Barnes gave Tom Morgan a free header into the top corner. Two minutes later, Barnes beat the offside trap, cut inside and smashed the ball past Aaron Underwood.

However, Steve Clark pulled a goal back, and a 25-yard strike from Oliver Mason rescued a point for the hosts in the 73rd minute.

Almondsbury were edged out 3-2 by Rockleaze Rangers at The Field.

On 35 minutes, Rockleaze made the breakthrough when a corner on the left was headed in at the back post by Jenson Beard. Straight from the restart Almonds attacked down the right Oakley Dawes crossed into the box and Omar Alwari knocked it down and Loui Ward finished with his left foot.

On 63 minutes, Theo Cox passed to Ward, who flicked it around a defender, put Alwari through and he cut back inside and fired in from just outside the penalty area.

A five minute period of sustained Almonds pressure followed and it looked like they would carve out a third but the final ball was never there. Rockleaze began to rally attacking continuously down their left and, on 74 minutes, a cross from the left was headed in by Drew Sawdon.

Rockleaze continued to press and Almondbury stated to tire, and on 88 minutes the ball was crossed in for Dan Webb to poke the ball home and clinch a 3-2 Rockleaze win. Almondsbury have three games left in which to secure safety.

At Pomphrey Hill, fourth-placed Bromley Heath United, in an extremely busy run of fixtures, notched up another win, this time 2-1 against Quedgeley Wanderers, who remain in trouble.

Goals came from Aiden Noble and Nathan Rose secured the three pooints for for Bromley Heath, while Rio Spencer was n target for Quedgeley.
