EDITOR'S LETTER

- Natasha Foges, Editor

e days may be getting colder, but this issue we bring you warmth, cheer and a dash of festive sparkle to keep the chill of winter at bay. We visit Wiltshire, a county of such celebrated attractions – not least a certain stone circle – that we could have dedicated an entire issue to it (Wonders of Wiltshire, p14); we get into the festive spirit at London’s historic shopping arcades (Beadles & baubles, p57); and we pay a visit to Chatsworth, perhaps Britain’s favourite stately home, which this year celebrates 20 years since its rst Christmas opening

( e greatest estate, p40).

It’s also time to look ahead to future travels; if you’re planning a trip in 2022 be sure to read Capital escapes (p48), our selection of charming and historic towns within easy reach of London.

As ever, we also have tales of bygone times to beguile you: from the highwaymen that roamed the roads on dark winter nights (Stand & deliver, p32), to the servants who kept Britain’s grand stately homes running like clockwork

(Life below stairs, p24). Enjoy the issue!
