Caernarfon to Blaenau Ffestiniog, Wales

This wonderful journey showcases the splendour of Snowdonia. Founded in 1832, the Ffestiniog Railway is the oldest narrow-gauge railway in the world and the only one to operate double-ended Fairlie steam locomotives.

There is magnificent scenery to enjoy en route. The journey begins at historic Caernarfon with its imposing castle looming over the harbour. Passengers cross the whole width of Snowdonia National Park and chug past the foothills of Mount Snowdon – the highest mountain in Wales – before snaking through lush forest to the pretty village of Beddgelert. There’s also the chance to travel the length of the Aberglaslyn Pass, a lovely gorge that runs through Snowdonia, intersecting the Glaslyn River, as it journeys to the Bay of Cardigan.
