Oakclan Forge - Volunteers

The forge is a portable period repoussé workshop that travels around the country, set up within the craft field. As a volunteer you will be part of a crew of 4-7. You will be trained in basic techniques by Simon Summers to go on and assist in summer workshops around England. Applicants must be committed, with a patient, calm, helpful and friendly nature. Helpful to be able to cook a meal (on an open fire). Strong interest in Iron Age/Celtic culture and crafts, be practical and have some artistic or creative ability. Piddington Roman Villa Excavations

42nd season of excavation by the Upper Nene Archaeological Society, of a late Iron Age settlement and Roman villa at Piddington, Northants. Sherwood Forest Archaeological Training Fieldschool 2019

Original plans for the Edinburgh Tram included a line down Constitution Street. The proposal has recently been revived, but in 2009, anticipating construction, archaeologists excavated a strip of road where the route passes South Leith parish church. It transpired that the road had been laid over the eastern edge of the graveyard, now hidden behind a high wall, and the remains of 378 people were recovered dating from the 14th
This is a ‘Training Field School’ where you will learn about all aspects of archaeological excavation from archaeological professionals in the heart of Sherwood Forest. This course is suitable for all levels from beginner to experienced digger. You will receive training and experience in many techniques, including The Core Skills of the Archaeological Skills Passport, plus many higher level archaeological techniques that make up the Secondary Skills of the Archaeology Skills Passport. Archaeology Field School at Strata Florida
13.08.-23.09.19, Strata Florida to the mid-17th centuries. Headland Archaeology has now published a detailed analysis of the site. Cemetery excavations are not uncommon, if challenging to complete, but this one is distinguished by a unique project with students at the Centre for Anatomy & Human Identification at the University of Dundee, who created many facial reconstructions. The Strata Florida Archaeology Field School will open its doors (and trenches) for the very first time. This is a unique opportunity for people young and old, from different backgrounds, with and without experience of archaeology to take part in all aspects of an archaeological excavation at this important historical site. Liss Archaeology: Colemore Project

Set in South Downs National Park, halfway between Alton and Petersfield, little was known about the site until the landowner discovered some RomanoBritish pottery. The September/ October excavation target will be determined upon the results of the spring excavation, a large trench is planned. Training is available in all aspects of archaeology, all skills levels and volunteers from all walks of life are welcome to take part. From 18 to 80s, all abilities. Taster days available.
