FIRST SIGHT
This is a Roman tile, actual size, from a bathhouse next to the largest fort on Hadrian’s Wall. The monogram, IMP, confirms other signs of an imperial connection. The baths, found ahead of construction of a new cricket pavilion with vast amounts of bone and artefacts, were the site of community excavation in September and October 2021, part of the National Lottery Heritage funded Uncovering Roman Carlisle project.
