Tragic explosions
Reading the article by Neil Redfern about the Barnbow tragedy ( From the director, Jul/Aug 2021/179) reminded me of an explosion that I read about years ago in Secret Underground Cities, by nj McCamley (1998). It was at an underground ammunition depot in Staffordshire in 1944, and enveloped an entire farm, killing many of the workers, most of whom were Italian prisoners of war. As usual it was hushed up at the time for morale purposes. A Wikipedia entry gives the grim details (https://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/ raf_ Fauld_explosion).
Another great issue and imaginative cover.
