United give the Saints five of the best in victory
CHESHAM United Ladies got their first points on the board in the FA Women’s National League Division 1 South West after a 5-0 win over Southampton Saints.
Chesham changed their formation as Gemma Darvill returned to the back line and Kirsty Gladwin was back in the midfield.
Early on in the game Chesham set the tone as Gemma Fraser crossed for Gladwin to go close.
Fraser hit another shot over and the two sides had a good share of possession, but neither could break the deadlock by the interval.
Kat Bowers was brought on for Gladwin and on the hour mark Emma Delves fired a shot which was palmed by the Southampton goalkeeper to Tash Smith, who fired across for Emma Bebbington at the far post to score her first goal for the club.
Bowers then gave the visitors a two goal lead and Fraser quickly added a brace to put Chesham 4-0 up. With 20 minutes left Dawne Campbell was replaced by Sarah Hazell, who finished well for Chesham’s fifth goal.
Up and running in the league, Chesham have also been drawn against Peterborough United Women in the SSE Women’s FA Cup on September 23.
