Cross bowlers impress

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

THERE were some excellent performances from Gerrards Cross bowlers at the recent championships held in Leamington Spa.

Courtney Harvey is the new England U18 female singles champion, beating her opponent from Nottinghamshire in a close-fought final.

It is a remarkable achievement for the Gerrards Cross youngster and proves that bowls is also a sport for the younger fraternity.

Gerrards Cross has traditionally had a very strong men’s team and this year proved no exception where the two fours became the English national champions.

The team came back from the brink in the semi-final to defeat a team from Surrey and purred their way to victory in the final against a side from Hertfordshire, cheered on by a large travelling band of supporters.

The photo shows the victors (back row) Kirk Smith, Tom McGuinness, David Ross, Richard Reid and (front row) John McGuinness, Andrew Briden, Alan Price, Neal Farnish.
