THERE were 27 Chiltern Harriers competing at the Southern Cross Country Championships, racing in the U13s, U15s and U17s age groups at Oxford Horspath on Saturday.
The U13s girls were first to toe the line and the Bucks team finished fourth, the best county position of the day.
Frankie Baxter ran a well-paced race to lead the team home in an excellent fourth place.
Early leader Lesedi Nkoane also ran well for seventh. Maddie Hughes was the third Bucks scorer in 22nd, Hannah Ashby was the fifth Bucks finisher in 38th, Marea Logan sixth in 45th and Ellie Shield eighth in 102nd.
There was also strong Chiltern representation in the U13s boys race, with six in the Bucks team and two in the Herts team.
Thomas Redmond continued to challenge at the highest level and was sixth, leading home the Bucks team that was 10th.
Oakley Denson ran well to be the third Bucks scorer in 61st, as did Max Baxter, fourth scorer in 64th.
Rowan Gawne was the fifth Bucks finisher in 78th, Alden Collier was seventh Bucks finisher in 102nd and Alfie Clifford eighth Bucks finisher in 107th.
Euan Pinder was the sixth Herts finisher in 77th and Leon Doran eighth Herts finisher in 109th.
Abbie Henderson had another very good run in the U15 girls race for sixth, leading home the Bucks team that was seventh.
All four Bucks scorers were Chiltern athletes, with Holly Henderson 13th, Alicia Bushell 29th and Alice Brown 59th.
There were five Chiltern boys in the Bucks U15s team.
Louis Peterson was the second Bucks boy home in 61st, with Finn O’Brien third in 64th and Ben Jackson fourth home in 73rd.
Matt Aldred was fifth in 89th and Cormac Nisbet seventh in 96th. The Bucks team finished 12th.
Soraya Lockwood was the sixth Bucks finisher in the U17s women’s race in 84th.
The U17s men’s race saw three Chiltern athletes take part, with Angus Williams having a good run to lead home the Bucks team in 13th.
Tommy Davies was the fourth Bucks scorer in 35th and Alex Johnson, after tweaking an ankle, was the seventh Bucks finisher in 58th.
