Getting an authentic look was key for the Martins. Success relied on skilful coordination of products, finishes and colours. Liberty took decorative cues from her choice of exterior materials, such as the craftsman-made door furniture, cast-iron guttering and timber cladding – all durable options that will weather with a patina of age. Internally, the mood is set by painted exposed beams and the stone fireplace. Polished oak floorboards and vintage wooden furniture add warmth and texture. e Shaker kitchen cabinets and island combine with the wood worktops, while classic ironmongery features on the internal doors and key pieces, such as the kitchen sideboard. A palette of heritage colours – from Farrow & Ball and Johnstones – has been used to paint walls and selected furniture. Traditional light fittings and fabrics in tartan and chintz patterns provide the finishing touches.
