D&M was founded in 1971 by the original self-build guru Murray Armor, who was the author of the rst 15 editions of the Building Your Own Home gospel. e company’s rst properties were built at Hodsock Priory in Nottinghamshire – and over 45 years later, we continue to produce high-quality bespoke homes tailored to selfbuilders’ needs.

Another well-known name in self-build, David Snell, joined D&M in 1976 – at which point the majority of our houses were built for farm workers and self-build groups. Murray Armor eventually sold D&M to Prestoplan Homes in 1985. By 1989, D&M had already reached the milestone of completing 1,000 properties – just as the rst ever edition of Build It magazine was published. e new millennium saw independence from Prestoplan, as the company began to build bigger and more prestigious dwellings. In 2011the team at D&M built our largest single house to date; a stunning 935m2 home.

2018 is an exciting time for the company. Chartered Surveyor, Antony Kingston has joined as Chief Executive; we’ve re-branded to D&M Homes; launched our new website and are o ering our rst new Custom Build opportunities in Surrey with more to follow later in the year. Although we have re-branded, one thing that hasn’t changed is the company’s renowned approach to helping Self-builders to design, co-ordinate and deliver their dream home. We are also now providing our expertise for joint ventures, speculative developments and acting for landowners on multiple unit sites.
