EMILY SMITH is Build It’s deputy editor. She has an in-depth understand­ing of the challenges self builders and renovators face. She explores how to remove internal walls on page 61 and the merits of thin joint masonry on page 69.

SOFIA DELGADO is Build It’s assistant editor. She has a keen eye for the latest news, products and projects to inspire your scheme (page 9). This month she reveals the latest underfloor heating innovation­s (page 66).

TIM DOHERTY was the founding MD of the NSBRC and runs Dobanti property surveyors. He advises on a range of project issues, including finance. On page 113 he looks at budgeting for an efficient lighting scheme.

MIKE DADE is a planning specialist and plot-finding expert. He’s the author of several must-read books on land and planning. On page 92 he explains the different permission­s and how to get consent before you start a project.

JULIAN OWEN is Build It’s design doctor.

He is a self build architect and the founder of the Associatio­n of Self-build Architects. He highlights the most overlooked design details, and why they matter, on page 108.

ALAN TIERNEY is a historic buildings consultant and conservati­on specialist, offering hands-on advice to owners of heritage homes. He’s a regular expert at the Build It Live shows and runs

Picketts Historic Building Conservati­on.

MIKE HARDWICK is a consultant and project management specialist, and has been heavily involved in promoting self build with NACSBA. Turn to page 105, where he reveals how the shell build route can help reduce stress and risk.

OPINDER LIDDAR is director of award-winning practice Lapd Architects and a regular expert at the Build It Live shows. On page 97 he explores the routes to adding space and value to Victorian terraced homes, without losing out on character.

NIGEL GRIFFITHS is a sustainabi­lity consultant and author of Haynes’ Eco House Manual, and a fount of knowledge for heating options. This month he looks at whether Passivhaus is the right eco standard for renovation­s (page 56).
