HOW CAN I MAXIMISE MY SYSTEM’S PERFORMANCE?

-

Controlling when the heating turns on and off in your home and which rooms you wish to warm up has long been a feature of British dwellings. However, thanks to smart technology it’s now possible to program your preferences for each day of the week according to your lifestyle, as well as having the option to adjust it remotely.

“All smart controls have a degree of intelligence to them,” says Uponor’s David Playfoot. “Unlike conventional on/off switches, they can react better to your household needs. With smart controls, the overshoot and undershoot drops considerably, making it a more efficient system.”

Uponor’s Smatrix control is a fully integrated scheme for radiant heating and cooling. Its self-learning tech means it can anticipate and adjust the exact amount of energy needed to ensure optimal comfort throughout.

To make the best of your UFH setup you should zone your system, so that you can warm up rooms as needed. With smart products, you can program your scheme to respond to the floor finish in each area.

Nu-heat’s smart tech, for instance, offers great versatility allowing you to set separate schedules and temperatures for each room, while taking into account your floor finishes. It can be paired up with mobile devices and the latest virtual assistants such as Apple Homekit and Amazon’s Alexa.

Although costs can vary greatly, you can expect to pay at least £80£100 for a single control interface. Prices will be higher for multizone systems. For more on smart heating see page 84.
