Make a design statement with your wine storage
Incorporating a spectacular wine cellar into an existing, fully-furnished home.
Charlie Southall, a successful film director and keen wine collector, has a beautiful and unusual house on the South Coast. He bought the house several years ago in a rather run-down condition and painstakingly brought it back to life with a film-makers attention to detail. At the time, he was only beginning his wine collecting journey, so saw no need to incorporate wine storage into his plans. However, after a few years, what started as just a few bottles had evolved into a more sizeable collection that needed housing. Charlie contacted Spiral Cellars to discuss the various cellaring options open to him. The brief was to provide capacity professional wine storage whilst at the same time delivering a ‘wow feature’ to his home. And ideally, to do so without creating too much disruption to his established room. Initially attracted to the elegance of a statement glass wine wall, Charlie was persuaded to consider an underground Spiral Cellar which delivered an equally impressive design statement but with greater storage capacity. “I had moved into my house a few years earlier and taken a lot of trouble getting it to look the way I wanted it to. I was understandably nervous that digging a great big hole in the centre of my living room would create collateral damage to the rest of the room, particularly to the wooden floor. My heart was in my mouth when installation began, but now that it’s finished, I can honestly say it was a doddle. Start to finish was less than eight days and I didn’t even need to paint the room afterwards”. Charlie now has his wine collection right in the heart of his home. As well as answering his storage needs, the Spiral Cellar has also added a design feature to the room.
“good, I knew the cellar would look but I didn’t appreciate just what a di erence it would make to the room or just what a talking point it would be amongst my friends.
The price of an underground Spiral Cellar is dependent on the type of cellar chosen and the various door, lighting, fit and accessory packages selected. Prices range from approx £23K - £70K
