Going underground
Taking inspiration from the Arts & Crafts movement, this beautiful family home in London has six bedrooms across the first two floors, with two large reception rooms and a kitchen and a breakfast area on the ground level. As residential space is at such a premium in the English capital, architects Citadel Design excavated a sizeable basement, which now features a swimming pool, an entertainment zone, gym, plant area and a utility.
A lift has been installed to connect the four storeys. The house has been fully equipped with Lutron smart lighting and AV systems and features bespoke joinery throughout. The garden was lowered by 1.7m to provide a better view from the ground floor, where the architects created wider access stairs to the basement and added staggered planters for interest. A tiled terrace with a glazed roof occupies the outside space by the swimming pool.
