Cornerstone House
Merrett Houmoller Architects was selected to undertake an extensive, modern refurbishment of this large terraced house in north London. The practice also added an attractive rear extension. It was important that the renovation work mediated between the distinctive character of the existing house and the additional space created. By opening up the rear of the property, the team created a sizeable and dramatic kitchen living area, while the dining room has been moved into the new zone.
The exterior of the extension is clad in anthracite herringbone tiles with a complementary deep grey roof. Crittall-style glazing completes the scheme, which follows through into the interior finishes with matching doors and shower enclosures. Internally, the double-storey zone is bright, spacious and minimal, with feature accents such as the burnished bronze-toned kitchen island and gold hardware in the bathroom adding interest to an otherwise neutral scheme. A thriving garden creates spectacular views of nature from inside the urban property.
