Although contemporary, the design of this four-bedroom home draws its influences from a truly traditional source. The architects at AR Design Studio were inspired by the gardens of Sissinghurst Castle in Kent, where the grounds are broken into smaller sections hidden from each other by dividing hedges. Only from one room in the central tower can you see how the spaces are connected.

Drawing on this concept, the property’s rectangular body was divided into five blocks focused on distinct aspects of the site, including the pool, a large tree and a pathway. At the heart is a courtyard with a cantilevered roof that ties each module together and provides a yearround sheltered outdoor space for relaxing. Extensive glazing allows light and fresh air into the home.

An overall view of the house can be seen from the roof of a central tower. A combination of vertical black cladding and bricks form the dwelling’s exterior, while swathes of fenestration frame the surrounding views.
