Build It

How much does a concrete slab cost?

-

We are using a turnkey company for our first self build, but we have to do the concrete slab ourselves. The house is approximately 235m2 and the ground floor is 130m2. Can you give me an average cost for laying the concrete slab using a contractor?

A slab that size would need around 40m3 of concrete, assuming the standard depth of around 300mm. A m3 of this material is priced between £65 and £85 depending on the specification, so budget between £2,600 and £3,500 for your slab, plus labour fees. ese figures are general guidance only – if the project is especially complex you may need to pay significantly more.

e concrete slab is your floor structure and will need to be supported by the foundations, of course, which is where most of the groundworks costs will be incurred.

On the other hand, if by ‘concrete slab’ you mean that your project needs raft foundations installed, then you will need to get in a structural engineer to design this part of the project – and this will add considerable cost.
