Like most Victorian homes, the Sanders’ house came with a number of original features, such as the bay window at the front of the property.

ese became very popular after the window tax of 1851 was abolished, as they allow in lots of light. e couple have installed double glazing and new frames. “We could have kept the originals as they were made of timber from properly matured trees”, says Kirsty. “But they were single-glazed, so we decided to take advantage of the Heathrow Night Noise Scheme and replace them”. e new fenestrati­on boosts energy efficiency and soundproof­ing, so the house now feels far warmer and less draughty while retaining its traditiona­l feel – with internal blinds complement­ing the decor.
