Selecting a durable material for the kitchen worktops was one of the couple’s top priorities. “Apart from the cost of the actual building work, this was probably the area where we spent the most money”, says Daisy. It was while the family were living in their friend’s house, at the time the construction work was being carried out, that they first considered using a composite product.

“Our friend had a manmade material for her worktops, and we really liked it, but noticed hers was prone to staining”, says Daisy. After a lot of research, the couple decided to go with a Dekton finish for their own kitchen. is hybrid material fuses raw materials with porcelain, quartz and glass to establish a high-quality heat-proof surface. “I’d recommend it to anyone – it’s practically indestructible”, says Daisy. “You can put hot pans straight onto the surface and it doesn’t stain. You could even take a knife to it and it wouldn’t scratch. It’s nice not having to worry about it when you’re cooking”.
