SUMMER HEATING & SECONDARY LOOPS

Anyone living in big older properties might know how long it can take for hot water to travel from the cylinder to a tap. A secondary loop can combat this, as it effectively pumps the contents of the hot water cylinder around the house on a continual basis. This means the length of pipe connecting this loop to any tap or outlet is only a few meters and hot water is almost instant.

Other folks have their heated towel rails put onto a separate valve to be operated independently of the space heating. This means you can use them in the summer for a short time.

If either of these ideas is of interest, then discuss this with your heating engineers early in the design process so that the appropriate pipe runs can be installed at the first fix stage.
