Much of the innovation Simon and his team brought to this scheme was a result of planning restrictions that meant it wasn’t possible to increase the overall footprint of the building. “If you want to fit two bedrooms, a study, a bathroom with a tub and a shower, and a decent sized kitchen into 90m2, you have to be really inventive”, says Simon. “Hence we added the mezzanine level, which is both practical and fun. Ideas like the concealed bed within the floor structure (visitors think of it as the James Bond bed) and some of the innovative storage we’ve incorporated were driven by the space limitations”.
