SPECIFYING MORE EXPENSIVE features was something we did on several occasions. Not only do they look better, but they’re unique and last longer. For example, a handmade kitchen will always stand out from the self-assembly versions. Using granite adds a touch of luxury, too.

WE’VE BEEN BUILDING for many years, so we’ve achieved exactly what we visualised and probably better. John has been working as a bespoke cabinet maker for more than 35 years. This has given us a wealth of insights into some fantastic properties throughout the UK.

LPG-POWERED UNDERFLOOR HEATING works well for us – I’d highly recommend it. It means you can dispense with radiators, opening up more wall space. It’s quiet and efficient. Plus, as the treehouse is so well insulated we only have to fill the tank up about once a year.

IN THE BATHROOM we detest being able to see the toilet as soon as you walk in, so we created a cantilevered shelf for the glass basins to sit on. This hides the toilet from view when entering. A curved shower screen gave us additional space.
