e sash windows throughout the treehouse are made from oak and were handcrafted by John. “We chose this particular opening configuration because we have a balcony encircling the structure,” says Nicki. “erefore, we couldn’t have fenestration that opens out onto that.” e Beavans decided that each of the units should feature an arched top, rather than straight, to complement the style of the treehouse.
“Designing this aspect of the retreat was quite complicated, but we don’t ever like to say we can’t do something,” says Nicki. “John put together a solution that allows each of the windows to open upwards rather than outwards. We don’t know if anyone else has ever done this before with sash units of this shape.”
