Modernist house
This unique contemporary home is located in a conservation area in south west London. The structure replaces a tired 1950s bungalow. Model Projects took great care to ensure that this striking new build would complement the surrounding area, offering a contrast to the established trees on the site. A crisp white render features on the exterior, with large windows to let in plenty of natural light and allow the homeowners to enjoy far-reaching views.
Inside, an oversized front door, galleried landing and rooflight contribute to the great sense of space that is prevalent throughout the dwelling. Model Projects’ design is a cubic form, using straight lines to draw people into the home. This modern scheme continues inside with minimalist furnishings for the kitchen and living room. The blue island in the centre of the culinary zone provides a pop of colour to the neutral decor. To maintain the clean lines, appliances are fitted into the units, including a surface-mounted extractor fan.
A third of the property sits in a basement level, maximising the building’s footprint and ensuring the homeowners have the space required. This floor enjoys full-height glazing and large light wells, making it a bright and airy space, like the rest of the house.
