WHEN RENOVATING, it’s always worth spending 24 hours in the empty property before you start work. With everything removed, you can see how the light changes throughout the day and get more of a feel for the layout and alterations you’re going to make.
PAYING THE BUILDER’S BILLS every week is worthwhile. By using this method, you can keep a tight eye on your budget and, if there are any minor discrepancies about expenditure, you can nip those in the bud immediately.
BEING ON SITE as much as possible is invaluable. I visited this project at least once a day. Devoting time to the scheme meant that any potential confusion was cleared up straightaway.
CHOOSING A TABLE for the kitchen, instead of an island unit, would have given me more flexibility, in hindsight.
