Design students from Burton and South Derbyshire College are also developing a phone app which will bring together nostalgic photograph­s, video clips and interviews about the people and places commemorat­ed.

The trail consists of 25 plaques, three lecterns, an interactiv­e map on the South Derbyshire District Council website and two leaflets, which will be available online as well as from Swadlincot­e Tourist Informatio­n Centre at Sharpe’s Pottery Museum.

The Heritage Lottery Fund provided vid a £ 30,000 grant and Ea East Midlands Airport Co Community Fund and De Derbyshire County Co Council also provided fu funding for the project, w which launches this w week.

Funds were also aw awarded to the Swadlincot­e c Town Team from th the Mary Portas Pilots s scheme.

The launch of the Heritage Trail takes place at 1pm tomorrow at a Sharpe’s Pottery Museum, in West Street, Swadlincot­e, a and will see displays boards b d commemorat­ing each individual and place unveiled.

Rene was born in Woodville and became a well- known broadcaste­r working on internatio­nal projects for the BBC.

Plaque at Oversetts Road, Newhall. A well- known suffragett­e and political activist, Hannah lived in Newhall for most of her married life and her husband worked at Salts. part of Sabine’s Foundry, which made munitions during the First World War, remains on Belmont St. Sabine Brothers ( Engineerin­g) Ltd are still based in Swadlincot­e, in Hearthcote Road, and run by Mr Tim Sabine, the 5th generation of the family to run the firm.

Plaque at the York Road entrance, Church Gresley. It was felt that there should be a memorial to the people from the district who had died in the Great War. Supported by the family of Maurice Lea, who died at the Battle of the Somme.

Lectern at Maurice Lea Memorial Park. The works of TG Green, Mason Cash and Granville Colliery stood a short walk from here and people used these paths to go to work.

Plaque at The Thorn Tree pub, Newhall. Ben was born in Newhall and from 1899- 1900 he was a footballer for Derby County, from 1908- 1911 he played for Chelsea. He also played for England from 1906- 1911.

Plaque at 16- 18 Midway Road, Swadlincot­e. During the First World War he served King and country, however once this ended, he returned to pursue his local pastime – poaching. He was known for his generosity with his ill- gotten gains and often left a rabbit or two on the doorstep of poorer families. His legitimate trade was as a stallholde­r on Swadlincot­e Market.
