CHRISTMAS is on its way to Burton with a programme of entertainment to get families into the festive spirit ahead of the big day.

East Staffordshire Borough Council is set to host a wide range of performances and events in the run-up to Christmas, with activities taking place throughout November and December in the Market Hall, Market Place, the Brewhouse Arts Centre and the Town Hall.

The programme kicks off on Sunday, November 25, with the annual Christmas lights switchon in the Market Place.

The day will start with a Christmas Market and entertainment from 2pm, followed by the lights switch-on by Burton boxer Frazer Clarke with a fireworks display at 5pm.

From November 28 to 30, Burton Town Hall will welcome Mimbre’s The Exploded Circus to the town for the first time, allowing audiences to step back and enjoy explosions frozen in time.

On December 1, the Market Hall and place will host its first Winter Festival. Developed in partnership with Burton Small Business to celebrate Small Business Saturday, visitors can expect to browse products from more than 30 traders from the area.

A week later, on Saturday, December 8, Burton Market Hall will also host its annual Christmas Craft Market, which organisers say will provide the perfect place to pick up seasonal gifts. On Tuesday, December 11, the Brewhouse, in Union Street will welcome comedian Ivo Graham for an evening of pre-Christmas fun and laughter.

Younger audiences get the opportunity to celebrate Christmas with a visit from the Santa Show at the Brewhouse on Wednesday, December 19. Children will have the chance to enjoy fun, festive songs and party games, and when the show ends, the adventure continues as youngsters head to the North Pole to receive a gift from Santa.

The events at the arts centre draw to a close on December 22 as acclaimed musicians Green Matthews bring their Yuletide Songs tour to the venue.
