KIDDING

Kids’ stuff: Sky Atlantic, 10.40pm

IN his first TV role in over two decades, movie star Jim Carrey brings us this tragicomedy about kids’ entertainer Mr Pickles.

Mr Pickles is an American icon for countless impressionable young minds, and also the anchor of a multimilliondollar branding empire.

But when tragedy strikes and his family implodes, he finds no fairy tale or puppet will guide him through the crisis.

This double bill starts with Jeff Pickles appearing on Conan, a real life late-night US talk show. He’s celebrating his 30th anniversary in children’s television and also promoting his new book Talking To Children.

It seems to go well, with ‘Mr Pickles’ cracking jokes and performing a song for his wife on his ‘ukelarry’.

But backstage on his own show, all is far from happy. He asks boss (Frank Langella): “Do we need to do another show about colours? Kids know the sky is blue. They need to know what to do when it’s falling.”

AMBULANCE

THE documentary follows the paramedics of the West Midlands Ambulance Service over three shifts in Staffordshire, where staff are seeing an increasing number of social issues, drug and alcohol misuse and mental health patients.

Dom and Sue are called to the address of a potentially violent woman, followed by a callout to a young heroin addict.

Jordan and Katie attend to 21-year-old Stephen, who has tried to kill himself by jumping from a bridge into a canal, while Mark and Verity treat 35-year-old Brett, who has suffered alcohol dependency for 18 years and does not know where to turn.
