VICTIM ATTACKED WHILE CHOOSING DRINK AT STORE’S PETROL STATION

A MAN stabbed another in the neck for ‘taking too long’ in a queue at an Asda petrol station – when police officers were only yards away.

CCTV footage captured Jack Oldfield, of Stanhope Road, Swadlinand cote, pulling out a knife from his pocket and stabbing Robert Taylor, who he had accused of taking too long to choose a drink at the petrol station, in Burton Road, Woodville.

Oldfield, 26, has now appeared in court, where he pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, plus three counts of carrying a bladed weapon after stabbing 30-year-old Mr Taylor at about 10.50pm, on July 11.

The thug has now been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Shocking CCTV footage captured the moment when Mr Taylor was confronted by Oldfield outside the filling station shop and stabbed him – in front of police officer PC Kim Wheldon, who had just finished refuelling her car.

PC Wheldon swiftly detained Oldfield before calling for back-up, Derby Crown Court was told.

Oldfield also had an imitation firearm on him, which he tried to dump in the police car after he was arrested.

She said after the case: “This was a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent man who had popped out to the shop that evening.

“Oldfield had become annoyed at waiting in the queue because he felt that Mr Taylor had taken ‘too long to choose a drink.’

“There was an argument and Oldfield pulled a knife from his pocket stabbed Mr Taylor in the neck. Oldfield also attempted to conceal the knife he had used and also left an imitation firearm in the police car in a bid to hide it.

“It was only good fortune that the injuries Mr Taylor suffered were not more serious,” PC Wheldon said. “Although these kinds of incidents are rare, Oldfield’s prison sentence reflects the fact that the courts take them extremely seriously.

“I’d like to offer my best wishes to Mr Taylor, on behalf of the force.

“I hope that he can find some comfort in knowing that Oldfield is off our streets.”
