Shop­pers urged to check their rights

SHOP­PERS are be­ing urged to en­sure they know their rights when splash­ing the cash this Christ­mas.

Stafford­shire County Coun­cil is now re­mind­ing res­i­dents to fa­mil­iarise them­selves with the Con­sumer Rights Act, which al­lows a full re­fund on faulty goods within 30 days of pur­chase.

Shop­pers can also chal­lenge un­fair terms and con­di­tions or any hid­den in small print, as well as the abil­ity to de­mand poor ser­vices are re­done.

The law also cov­ers faulty dig­i­tal goods. Gill Heath, com­mu­ni­ties leader on the coun­cil, said: “Con­sumer laws ap­ply to both in-store and on­line shop­ping so it’s a good idea to fa­mil­iarise your­self with them.”

“We want peo­ple to be able to shop with con­fi­dence on­line, stay safe and en­joy the fes­tive prepa­ra­tions.”
