Woman seen walking in middle of A38

her car broke down.

The incident caused traffic delays after motorists were temporaril­y held up in both directions between the Branston Interchang­e and Clay Mills, in Stretton, at around 2.30pm.

A Staffordsh­ire Police spokesman said: “We were alerted to a woman walking down the central reservatio­n of the A38 between the two exits for Burton.

“It is believed her car had broken down and she was walking to a safe location. Officers responded, but a search for her proved negative. Officers will continue to monitor the area.”

Both West Midlands Ambulance Service and Highways England said they had not been involved in dealing with the incident.
