Decision time looming for Ikechi in the January window
IKECHI Anya could face a decision over his future at Derby County next month, says manager Frank Lampard.
Anya has not featured in the first team under Lampard. The 30-yearold Scottish international’s last appearance for the Rams was in the final game of last season when he started the second leg of the Championship play-off semi-final against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
He is training with Derby’s under23s and has played a few games for Darren Wassall’s team.
His contract runs until the summer of 2020 but the January transfer window might offer him the chance to go out and play some first-team football.
“Kechi is fit. He trains with the under-23s at the moment and that is it,” said Lampard.
“He has to keep training, and keep playing when he has got the opportunity, and look at what he wants to do for the future, as well.
“Obviously he hasn’t played (for the first-team this season), and we all know that, so I think January will be a decision for him whether he wants to go and play football.”
