Helping fans down memory lane
A ‘MEMORY lane’ club at Burton Albion to help fans suffering from dementia has won praise after two ‘fantastic’ events – with a third in the pipeline.
Burton Albion Community Trust, the club’s charity arm, has hosted two 1950 Club meetings in recent months, which saw members of the Brewers faithful share fond memories and compare memorabilia collected down the years.

The 1950 Club is named after the their association with the club. year Burton Albion FC was founded The first saw club chairman Ben – almost 70 years ago. Each evening Robinson and one of the best-known former Brewers players, Aaron Webster, who had more than 500 games (with 88 goals) for the club.
Mr Robinson gave an in-depth talk about the club’s history, while Aaron talked about his footballing career.
This took place at the end of October, with a second held on November 23. John Widdowson, health and inclusion manager at the club, said: “It was a fantastic event and we can’t wait for the next one.
“We’re really grateful to both the chairman and to Aaron for sharing their stories and for digging some great memorabilia from their archives.
“Lots of laughs were had and there were plenty of smiles on people’s faces, as we looked back and shared plenty of great content.
“We look forward to seeing even more Brewers memorabilia and fans at the next one.”
A further event is planned for Friday, December 14, which will take place from 10am until noon.
Free teas and coffees will be available.
The events have been backed with funding from Staffordshire county councillors Bernard Peters and Ron Clarke.
