A NEW travel agent shop is set to open in Burton, creating seven jobs.

And to mark the opening, shoppers can get a £50 discount on all holidays booked before Saturday, February 16. Terms and conditions apply.

It has moved into the shop between the British Heart Foundation charity shop and casino Cashino.

The new Co-operative Travel will open in the premises where fellow holiday experts, Thomas Cook, used to be in Station Street.

The seven new employees are all from the Burton area and share 65 years of experience in the travel industry between them, said a spokesman for Midcounties Co-op, which will run the travel agents. The branch will open for business on Tuesday, December 11, before an official launch on Saturday, January 5, when a secret “celebrity” guest will be joined by the deputy mayor and mayoress for East Staffordshire, Councillor Colin Wileman and Jean Hiatt.

Bosses at the store are playing their cards close to their chest and are yet to reveal who the star guest will be.

Burton shoppers can take the plunge with destinations on offer ranging from the sunny scenes of Barcelona and Mexico, city breaks walking along the canals of Amsterdam or relaxing on the beaches of Bulgaria.

Anyone booking a break will be entered into a draw to win £500 off the price of a flight from East Midlands Airport before the end of January.

Nicki Wilkes, branch manager at Midcounties Co-operative Travel, said: “We can’t wait to welcome the local community through the doors of our new branch next week.

“We’ve got a really strong team of travel industry experts here who are all looking forward to meeting our new customers and advising them on their next holiday, whether that’s a skiing trip in the Alps or a sunshine break in Seville.

“A special celebrity guest will be joining us for the official launch in January and we’ll be revealing who they are later this month.”
