Sculpture for marina
Simon Gudgeon with leader of the district council Martyn Ford and John Thornton when the statue was unveiled A NEW sculpture has been unveiled at Mercia Marina to mark the attraction’s 10th anniversary.
The Bird of Happiness figure was created by renowned British artist Simon Gudgeon and has now taken pride of place outside the Bluebird Gallery at the marina in Willington. The bronze cast statue stands at over 7ft tall and weighs around 400kg.
Marina partner John Thornton said: “We wanted a permanent marker of the marina’s foundation and a sculpture seemed very appropriate.”
