Ivanhoe back on top after Cons are beaten

THERE was a change at the top of the David Wain Insurance Premier Division as Burton Cons A were beaten 5-3 at home by Belmont A, opening the way for Ivanhoe A to become the new leaders.

John Chambers included a 43 in his victory over Jon Fletcher for Belmont but Mick Simpkins responded for Cons as he beat Rob Chambers. With the match at 3-3, Mark Sherratt included runs of 35 and 31 to close out a win against Mike Buckland.

Andy Marriott had a 59 break for Ivanhoe A over Wayne Pereira as they beat Tutbury B 6-2. Dan Blunn and Ant Moore were their other winners as Ivanhoe went four points clear of Burton Cons A ahead of their meeting this week.

Burton Cons B beat Belmont B 5-3 with the match of the evening between Josh Gebbie and John Shilton. Gebbie had a 41 and Shilton a 51 as they shared the frames.

Satchwell settled the outcome.

Alrewas A were held to a 4-4 draw by Swad Cons A, as Karl Hancox included runs of 56 and 32 in beating Andy Grainger.

There was another draw as Newhall A and SDSC A shared the spoils, pulling both sides slightly away from the bottom of the division. Winners for Newhall were Nick Walker and Martin Hicks, with Harry Farrell and Henry Tomas responding for SDSC A.

One of the performanc­es of the week came in PJM Fascias Division One, with Tom Bassett of Rolleston A making breaks of 48 and 52 against Stapenhill B but John Sherriff was the only match winner to give victory to Stapenhill 5-3.

SDSC B had a comfortabl­e 6-2 home win over their own club’s C team, while Burton Cons C had a good 5-3 win away to Spot On B.

At the top, Ivanhoe C lost for the first time this season as they went down 5-3 at home to Alrewas B and Rolleston B had a good 5-3 win against a makeshift Stapenhill A.

It is very tight at the top of Newton Fallowell Division Two, with SDSC D squarely in the race following their 5-3 defeat of Rolleston C.

Woodville A whitewashe­d Spot On D but Spot On E maintained their push with a 5-3 win over Tutbury D. Swad Cons C had the better of the club’s B side by 5-3 to go top of the pile, while Woodville B scored a 5-3 win over Burton Cons D.
