Formal plans have been entered by education firm Entrust to build the school on the Bramshall Meadows housing estate.

The one-storey building will stand on the east of the estate and cater for 150 pupils studying in key stages one and two.

There will also be space for 26 preschool nursery pupils at the red-andbrown-brick building.

The 12,000-square-metre site will be expandable to accommodate 210 school places in the future.

Although it is being developed for Staffordshire County Council, the school will be managed by a yetto-be-decided academy trust.

Information in Entrust’s application shows a plan, subject to agreement with the trust that ends up running the school, for wildlife areas for the children.

The application reads: “Contact with nature and green space is known to be beneficial to children and the strongest positive responses normally relate to trees; positively affecting children’s mental health, reducing negative feelings and alleviating anxiety.

“Woodland planting will, therefore, be implemented within the landscape design.

“Tree planting is proposed across the site, focusing on screening and the habitat area.

“It will provide a woodland environment which corresponds to both the green infrastructure in the wider housing development and with open countryside nearby.

“A wildlife pond with a dipping platform will be situated within the habitat area.

“The dipping platform will feature an anti-slip surface.

“The pond will be fenced for safety with a lockable gate for controlled access.

“New contoured landforms will be emphasised with tree planting and a wildflower meadow.”

St Modwen is in the process of building most of the houses on the 700home Bramshall Meadows estate, off Bramshall Road, which also has planning permission for an industrial estate at the north of the site, accessed off the A50.

And the developer is funding the new school as part of a “section 106” agreement to provide cash for education infrastructure as new families move into their houses.

Pupils will be able to get to and from the new school on a new bus service, Entrust bosses say. Sportsmen and women in Uttoxeter may benefit from the possibility of using the site’s sports facilities out of hours, but there will be no changing rooms.

Twenty parking bays will be installed, two of which will be disabled, with a playground designated as an overflow car park on parents’ evenings.

Two grassed play areas will also be set up on the school grounds.

New gas, electricity and water supplies will be created to serve the development, which will use existing drainage systems on the estate.

CCTV will be installed and will overlook the main road outside the school’s entrance.

Anyone who wants to comment on the proposals can read them in full and do so online at www.eaststaffsbc.gov. uk/Northgate/PlanningExplorer/ ApplicationSearch.aspx, where they should enter “P/2018/01405” in the “application number” box.

Entrust’s planning application will be considered by East Staffordshire Borough Council’s planning committee on a date yet to be decided.
