New deal is reward for Hutchinson

-

REECE Hutchinson has signed a new contract with Burton Albion to keep him at the club until 2021.

The 18-year-old academy graduate is in his first season as a professional, having put pen to paper on a first senior deal with the Brewers in May.

The new deal is a two-and-ahalf-year contract, which will expire at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Hutchinson has made 12 appearances in all competitions after making his professional debut in August’s 3-1 loss at Gillingham.

A versatile defender and midfielder, he has primarily played at left-back, moving into a left-wing role in the second half of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town after the introduction of Ben Turner.

Hutchinson is one of five graduates of the Burton academy to have featured in the League this season, alongside Marcus Harness, Joe Sbarra, Ben Fox and John Brayford, who began his career in the Conference with Albion.

“I’m delighted and it’s obviously a great feeling,” said Hutchinson.

“After coming through the academy, it’s hard in the first year but I’ve tried to make a mark and impress the gaffer and I think that’s what I’ve done so far to earn it.

“He’s given me a lot of opportunities to go out and impress against the likes of Aston Villa and teams in League One - and I think I’ve taken them.”
