Get 2019 off to a flying start with a job at EMA
IT’S the time of year when people are looking for a fresh start in a new career – and East Midlands Airport could be a good place to begin.
The airport has more than 350 jobs up for grabs at its jobs fair, which takes place in the airport’s check-in hall from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, January 26.
To help give jobseekers the widest possible range of opportunities, the airport is working with neighbouring businesses to help those looking for something new in 2019.
The Castle Donington site needs to find additional staff to fill roles linked to its busy summer season, which runs from April 1 to October 31. That is when two-thirds of the airport’s passengers use East Midlands each year.
The jobs include customer-facing roles in:
■ Passenger services;
■ Security;
■ Car parking;
■ Hospitality;
■ Retail;
■ Food and beverage. Also recruiting are Jet2.com and Swissport, which are looking for ground-handling staff to fill checkin and baggage-handling roles. Logistics giants DHL and UPS is also recruiting, as is Jury’s Inn hotel, located on the Pegasus Business Chris Hayton Park next to the airport. The airport site is home to more than 80 individual businesses which, between them, employ 8,000 people. Jobseekers keen to find out more about all the vacancies on offer can do so at the jobs fair.
Entry is free and those who attend can park at the airport without charge.
Those wishing to travel to the event on public transport can take advantage of discounted bus travel on Skylink, which serves Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Loughborough, Long Eaton, Coalville and Shepshed. People planning to use

For those not quite ready to enter the jobs market or in need of further training, bosses said the airport’s academy is a dedicated employment and education facility for adults.
Tutors from the college will be on hand to talk about the academy and how it could benefit unemployed people hoping to secure work in the future. Chris Hayton, East Midlands Airport’s head of external affairs, said: “With 8,000 people working across the wider airport site within multiple businesses, this is a great place to expand skills and develop careers.
“This corner of North West Leicestershire is one of the fastest growing employment sites in the region, and with that will come even more opportunities in the future.
“This is an exciting time to be working at the airport and with our neighbouring businesses.”
