Back to basics after taste of the high life

BEN Turner is ready to get back to the “bread and butter” of League One with Burton Albion – and he wants the rebuilding job to continue.

The Brewers are at home to Gillingham today (3pm) following their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg humbling at the hands of Manchester City in midweek.

Before that 9-0 defeat, Albion had strung together a sequence of eight points from four matches in the League and they are in the division’s top half for the first time this season.

They remain 10 points adrift of the play-off places after 26 games.

Turner and his team-mates have been on the back foot in their bid for an immediate return to the Championship after a miserable opening month saw them lose four of their first five matches.

But while he acknowledges there is a lot to do if they are to be in contention for a top-six spot come May, he feels they are capable of it.

“We were out of our weight class against Manchester City, weren’t we – but on Saturday we are back into it,” he said.

“That’s the bread and butter for us. We’re building something in the League and we hope we can get towards challenging for those playoffs.

“We can’t do it overnight, there are still enough points to claw back for it not to happen overnight.

“But we can certainly do it in the second half of the season.

“Thanks to the supporters for coming out on Wednesday and supporting us. I’ve been here for three seasons now, they’re a positive bunch of fans.

“They’re a great bunch and we really appreciate their support.

“Obviously, it’s key now, for them and for us, let’s kick on in the League.

“We’ve got to ninth now. We had a terrible start and we are building. The City game is irrelevant to that.

“On Saturday, in a home game, can we get three points and go again and keep creeping?”
