CAPITAL COOL IN ONE CLICK
I JUMPED on a train recently for a blissful pre-Mother’s Day-Day 200 miles away from my kids in London, hanging out celeb spotting (Emma Thompson and Sadie Frost if you’re interested), afternoon drinking and of course, partaking in a little retail therapy. Shopping was made SO much easier by the plethora of boutiques in London.
I hope Emma Thompson and Sadie Frost realise how lucky they are having all this choice on their doorstep.
French Brands Maje & Sandro, who do the prettiest printed blouses and dresses, American Vintage for denim jackets and the best jersey on the high street, and Bimba Y Lola from Spain for more quirky pieces. There was even a J Crew and a Theory store, both of which I wish I could afford to buy more of.
No wonder there are so many cool looking people wandering the streets of London.
While people watching through my wine glass, I spotted so many ever-so stylish people. The thing that always strikes me is how understated and effortless the look they adopt is. Very few logos, no branding, no obvious designer items, it’s all so pared back and a little bit mismatched – faultless layering, and pitch perfect accessories, while sunglasses are a prerequisite.
And white jeans, not Liz Hurley stretchy white skinnies, thick denim, more milk than ice white, straight leg to the ankle with a high waist.
Topshop and Levi’s both have great options, and if you’re in the market for a spring coat, get a trench – all the stylish people were wearing one over pretty much anything – no need to go all the way to London to hunt one down though. Zara.com has done the leg work for you.
You’re welcome.
