MP ‘flattered’ to be in artist’s montage

-

BARTON under Needwood and Lichfield MP Michael Fabricant said he is “flattered” to have been included in a montage by a well known online artist.

The artist, known on Twitter as Cold War Steve, often mocks up historical and recent paintings and photographs attaching the heads of politicians.

These are then posted for his 290,000 Twitter followers.

In one of his latest works, Conservative MP Michael Fabricant makes the cut with his head superimposed on to The Oyster Lunch by Jean Francois de Troy from 1734.

The painting shows Mr Fabricant and several other Conservative politicians being overlooked by Manchester United and England footballer and free school meals campaigner Marcus Rashford, while they eat below.

Reacting to the picture, Mr

Fabricant told Lichfield Live : “I am very flattered to have been included in one of Cold War Steve’s montages.

“I’m not sure what I am supposed to be doing in it, but it all looks very louche!

“Steve brings out a calendar each year, so I may buy one if that picture is included.”

Mr Fabricant went on to say that in the artwork it looked like he was shouting at Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, saying something like saying ‘Stop HS2’ in a nod to Mr Fabricant’s opposition to the planned high speed railway that will come through Staffordshire.

Cold War Steve’s work has been described as having “captured the mood of Brexit Britain” and has been likened to that of earlier British political satirists Hogarth and Gillray.

Called Christopher Spencer, he is a British collage artist and satirist.
