MP to raise concerns over flooding with the Environment Agency
BURTON MP Kate Griffiths is set to hold talks with the Environment Agency on Friday over flooding issues in Burton and Uttoxeter.
She has been in frequent contact with the agency over the past few weeks since forecasts predicted torrential rain and flood alert warnings were issued for the Rivers Dove and Trent.
Last week, river levels rose rapidly and the Dove burst its banks in Rolleston, leaving many roads inaccessible.
Ms Griffiths is asking constituents to share their experiences or if they have a potential flooding concern to get in touch ahead of her meeting.
She said: “At this time of year flooding is always a concern, even if it doesn’t occur residents are understandably worried whenever a large amount of rain is forecast. So far this winter, we just recently saw flooding locally and I have been in contact regularly with the Environment Agency over the past few weeks to ensure the necessary response and I am pleased that the situation across the constituency has now improved.”
“In places like Marchington, Rolleston and Branston water levels have receded, but we cannot be complacent. We still have some way to go with this winter season and we should always be looking for more ways to protect our local communities against these weather events.”
“If any constituents would like to raise how they were affected by flooding last week or a concern about a possible future incident, then please get in touch with me and I will put this to the Environment Agency at my meeting with them this coming Friday.”
