DETECTIVES are investigating a report that a someone attempted to rape a woman in a house in Burton.

Detectives from Staffordshire Police have now launched an investigation into the incident.

A woman has told them that she was sexually assaulted and the incident happened at a property in the Ashby Road area of the town at approximately 11.30pm on Tuesday, February 2.

The woman involved is currently receiving support from speciallytrained officers.

Now detectives are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the Ashby Road area at around 11.30pm on last night, along with any motorists who may have dashcam footage who may have been travelling through at the time.

The A511 Ashby Road is a main route between Burton and Swadlincote. Detective Inspector Gemma Black, from the force’s rape and serious sexual offences team, said: “At around 12.10am [on Tuesday], we received a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted in Burton.

“We have been carrying out a number of enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

However, we are still in the early stages of our investigation.

“I am particularly keen to speak to witnesses who were in the Ashby Road area of the town at approximately 11.50pm last night or have dashcam footage to contact police.”

Anyone with any information, CCTV or dashcam footage should message Staffordshire Police on Facebook or Twitter quoting incident number 21 of February 3, or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

If you have been sexually assaulted, there are services that can help. The NHS says you don’t have to report the assault to police, but if you want the crime to be investigated, the sooner a forensic medical examination takes place, the better.
