Band seize on Robbie’s Angels for their next mashup project

-

A STAFFORDSHIRE band have gone viral with their mashup version of Robbie Williams’ hit Angels and Simple Minds’

80s classic Don’t You Forget About Me.

Deco, with members originally from Burton and Ashbourne, shot to public awareness after they posted a video of them covering Wannabe by the Spice Girls as though it had been released in the 80s, to the tune of Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye.

The video made more than a million views on Twitter in 24 hours, seeing frontman Max Kendall interviewed on This Morning and Good Morning Britain, fronted by Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

Now Deco have created a mashup of Angels, by fellow Staffordshire musician Robbie Williams, and Simple Minds’ Don’t You Forget About Me. Each band member recorded their part in different venues due to Covid restrictions.

It comes after the band’s version of Oasis’ Wonderwall, to the tune of Smalltown Boy by

Bronski Beat, received more than 1.1 million views. Max said: “Robbie is a bit of a local hero and he was everywhere when we were kids. He’s got some absolute bangers, so we thought it would be good to do one because of the alleged Liam Gallagher and Robbie Williams spat. It made sense to release it after we did an Oasis cover. We put it together just after our interview on Good Morning Britain, as it kind of inspired us to do another one.”

Fans are now calling for the band to release an entire album of 80s mashups, with one fan on Twitter saying: “I’m amazed by the quality of these mashups! Nice one again, guys!”

The band comprise: Max Kendall (Burton), vocals and synth; John Dell (Ashbourne), guitar; John Steele (Ashbourne), bass; Thomas Reinholz (Munich), drums; and Lucy Kendall (Burton), saxophone.

They are planning to release one of the mashups as a single, before releasing some of their original material later in the year, having written 14 tracks now.
