30 more deaths across three counties as figures across UK fall
THE latest coronavirus figures have revealed that more than 200 people have tested positive in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
Together the three counties recorded more than 200 cases in the 24 hours up to 4pm on Wednesday.
The government figures for the 24-hour period also show that more than 30 people across the three counties have died and all cases were within 28 days of testing positive for the virus.
East Staffordshire
A total of 8,689 people in East Staffordshire have now had confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic – a rise of 41 in the 24 hours.
There have been three deaths announced in the borough, so the total stands at 377 since the pandemic began. The population of the borough is around 119,754.
A total of 211 new cases were recorded across Staffordshire as a whole, including those in East Staffordshire.
That means 54,992 people have tested positive in the county as a whole since the start of the pandemic.
Eleven more people have died across the county, meaning 2,181 deaths have been recorded in Staffordshire. All cases were within 28 days of people testing positive for the virus.
South Derbyshire
In South Derbyshire, there have been 39 new cases, with the total since the start of the pandemic now standing at 6,545.
There has been one death in South Derbyshire and the total number now stands at 210. The district’s population is around 107,261.
In Derbyshire as a whole, there have been 44,700 cases, 229 of which have been registered in the last 24 hours analysed. These figures include the South Derbyshire cases.
Across the county, where the population is around 802,694, 1,709 people have died from the virus since
February, last year. This is a rise of 12 in 24 hours.
North West Leicestershire
In North West Leicestershire, there have now been 5,220 cases since the start of the pandemic, including 49 new cases.
A total of 196 people have died within 28 days of testing positive, with four new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.
In that time, a total of 39,681 cases have been recorded in Leicestershire as a whole, with 204 new cases. The population is around 706,155.
There have been 10 new deaths in the county recorded, meaning 1,205 have now died within 28 days of testing positive.
The latest figures for the UK, as of 4pm yesterday, show figures continuing to fall. There were 12,057 new cases recorded, and 454 more deaths.
The Daily Mirror reports that statistics released yesterday showed a daily hospital death toll of 386 – the lowest Thursday this year.
