Member given the jab as she is in over-60s group

-

SOUTH Derbyshire MP Heather Wheeler has been given the coronavirus vaccination, she has revealed.

The 61-year-old became one of the youngest people so far to be given the jab at Oaklands Village and community care centre, in Hall Farm Road, as the care facility in Swadlincote started administering the vaccines to ‘Group 7’ – the over 60s.

Previously, it had been vaccinating patients aged 65 and over.

Conservative MP Mrs Wheeler said: “Well done to all at Oaklands. They are doing so well.

“Covid jabs are being given to Group 7 and above now.

“It was so well organised and friendly. Thank you.”

According to the latest Government figures, more than 14 million people have now received a first dose of the vaccine in the UK. More than 530,000 of those have also received the second dose. This progress means the UK continues to be among the countries with the highest vaccination rates globally.

Here are the groups in order they are due to have the vaccine:

■■Group 1 – Residents in a care home for older adults and staff working in care homes for older adults

■■Group 2 – All those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers

■■Group 3 – All those 75 years of age and over

■■Group 4 – All those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals (not including pregnant women and those under 16 years of age)

■■Group 5 – All those 65 years of age and over

■■Group 6 – Adults aged 16 to 65 years in an at-risk group.

■■Group 7 – All those 60 years of age and over

■■Group 8 – All those 55 years of age and over

■■Group 9 – All those 50 years of age and over

■■Group 10 – Rest of the population (to be determined)
