Shobnall has second worst infection rate in the county

SHOBNALL now has the secondwors­t covid infection rate in the whole of Staffordsh­ire.

As rates come down across the UK, the Burton neighbourh­ood continues to suffer a comparativ­ely high proportion of cases.

The latest Government seven-day rolling infection rate data covers the week to February 13.

In Shobnall, there were 442.7 positive cases per 100,000 residents in that time, although that only equates to 37 residents – a rise of seven, or 23.3 per cent, on the previous week analysed.

The only area in the county with a worse infection rate is Feathersto­ne West, Coven and Shareshill, where the figure is 555.7.

In the South Staffordsh­ire postcode, where prison HMP Feathersto­ne is located, there were 52 new cases.

However, that represents a 48.5 per cent drop compared to the previous seven-day spell, when 49 more people tested positive. With lockdown three taking effect, there are no other areas with infection rates above 400 in the county.

There are only a handful above 300, with most in the Burton area.
