Driver failed to stop after someone hurt

A DRIVER who failed to stop after another motorist was injured in a collision has appeared in court.

Appearing before South Derbyshire magistrate­s, Waqar Asghar, 35, admitted driving a blue Toyota without due care and attention in Uttoxeter Road, Hatton, on July 13.

He also admitted failing to stop after an accident in which a person was injured on the same day.

Asghar, 35, of Lawnswood Close, Derby, was banned from driving for six months and given a 29-month community order. He must also do 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £110 court costs and a £95 victim surcharge.

In separate cases:

Adam Greig, 30, of Wilmot Road, Swadlincot­e, admitted stealing a bicycle worth £350 in Bernard Street in the town on April 4.

He was fined £120 and told to pay £85 court costs and a £34 victim surcharge.

Alec Sides, 33, of Park Road, Overseal, admitted possession of amphetamin­e in Matlock and Swadlincot­e on October 7, 2019, and two charges of possession of cannabis in Swadlincot­e on October 7, 2019.

He was given an 18-month community order and told to pay £620 court costs and a £85 victim surcharge. He must also do 150 hours’ unpaid work.

Mark Helegeson, 42, of Northfield Drive, Coalville, was convicted of failing to give the identity of the driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence in Coalville on July 1.

He was also convicted of using a car in Oxford Street and Church Street, Swadlincot­e, on May 21 without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He was fined £660, told to pay £620 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge, and received six points on his licence.
